    NIFT stands for the National Institute of Fashion Technology. It is a premier institute in India that offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in fashion design, technology, and management. NIFT is known for its rigorous curriculum and its strong industry connections. The NIFT Entrance Exam is a competitive exam that is required for admission to all NIFT programs. The exam is held in two stages: the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT). The CAT assesses a candidate's creative and design skills, while the GAT assesses a candidate's general knowledge and reasoning abilities.

    Latest About NIFT

    The latest update on the NIFT exam is that the registration process for the NIFT 2024 exam is expected to start in November 2023. The exam is likely to be held in the first week of February 2024.

    The NIFT website has not yet released any official information about the NIFT 2024 exam. However, candidates are advised to start preparing for the exam as early as possible.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Educational qualification : Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination from a recognized board of education.

    Age limit : Candidates must be less than 24 years of age as on August 1, 2024. There is a relaxation in the upper age limit of 5 years for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

    B.Des in Fashion Communication : Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination with English as a compulsory subject.

    M.Des in Fashion Technology : Candidates must have a Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) degree from NIFT or an equivalent degree from a recognized university.

    M.Des in Strategic Fashion Management : Candidates must have a Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) degree with a specialization in Fashion Management or an equivalent degree from a recognized university.

    Paper Pattern for NIFT Exam

    The NIFT 2024 exam will be conducted in TWO stages. Stage 1 includes the written exams - GAT and CAT. Note that only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take the CAT. Shortlisted candidates have to appear in a Situation Test/ Personal Interview.As per the official NIFT 2024 exam pattern, the GAT paper will be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) mode, while the CAT paper will be held offline.

    The written examination for NIFT 2024 has two components :
    Creative Ability Test (CAT) General Ability Test (GAT). Those seeking admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses need to appear in both CAT and GAT. However, those seeking admission to the B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M courses only need to take the GAT Exam.

    Negative Marking

    In the GAT paper, for every wrong attempt, the candidate will be deducted 25% (1/4) of the total marks.
    Note that there is no negative marking for the CAT paper, which is a drawing-based exam

    Test Pattern for NIFT 2024 - CAT

    The CAT is a pencil-and-paper-based exam (or drawing-based exam)

    Exam Duration: 3 hours

    Skills evaluated: Intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in the development of a concept as well as design ability of the candidate. It will also test the creative as well as innovative use of color and illustration skills of aspirants

    Test Pattern for Situation Test

    The Situation Test is the 2nd stage of the NIFT 2024 entrance exam for the B.Des program. Candidates who qualify in the written exams (CAT and GAT) have to appear in the Situation Test.

    Note that candidates seeking admission to Master's courses aren't required to take the Situation Test; instead, they have to appear in a Personal Interview.

    The Situation Test will evaluate the “material handling and the innovative ability” of the candidate.

    Here, candidates will be examined in areas like “Space Visualization, Innovative and creative use of given material, the composition of elements, color scheme, construction skill, the finesse of the model and overall presentation, etc.

    At the time of the Situation Test, the candidate is required to submit a write-up explaining the concept/idea behind the model constructed. Also, since the medium of teaching in NIFT is English, the write-up should be in the English language. No marks will be given for write-up in any other language.

    Nift Exam Fees

    Application fee : INR 3,000 for the general category and INR 1,500 for the SC/ST/PWD category. This fee is used to cover the costs of processing applications, such as the cost of reviewing transcripts, letters of recommendation, and essays.

    Entrance exam fee : INR 1,500 for all categories. This fee covers the cost of developing and administering the NIFT entrance exam.

    Payment gateway charges : A nominal fee may be charged for paying the application fee and entrance exam fee online.

    Late fee : If you miss the deadline to submit your application form, you will need to pay a late fee. The late fee is INR 5,000.

    Document verification fee : If you are selected for admission to a NIFT program, you will need to pay a document verification fee. The document verification fee is INR 1,000.

    How to Apply For Nift Exam

    To fill the NIFT application form, you need to follow these steps :

    1. Visit the NIFT website and click on the "Admissions" tab.

    2. Click on the "Application Form" link.

    3. Create a login account by entering your name, email address, and mobile phone number.

    4. Once you have created an account, you will be able to access the NIFT application form.

    5. Fill out the application form carefully and accurately.

    6. Upload the required documents, such as your scanned passport-size photograph, signature, transcripts, and letters of recommendation.

    7. Pay the application fee online.

    8. Submit the application form.

    Here is a list of the required documents that you need to upload while filling out the NIFT application form:

    Letters of recommendation from two academic referees
