About Jee Main

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), commonly known as JEE Main, is an all-India standardized computer-based test for admission to various undergraduate engineering programs(B.E / B.tech) in India. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). The exam is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Exam Pattern

Exam pattern

Eligibility

1. Nationality :

You must be an Indian citizen, but if you're a foreign national, NRI, PIO, or OCI, you can still apply.

2. Age Requirements :

There's no age limit, and if you completed your 12th grade in 2023, 2022, or you're doing it in 2024, you're eligible.

3. Total Attempts

You can try the exam three times in a row. The test happens twice a year, so that's up to six attempts.

4. Qualifying Exam

Your qualifying exams could be your 12th-grade final exams from recognized boards, like CBSE. You can also qualify through a two-year Pre-University or Intermediate exam from a recognized university or board. Or, if you've finished the National Defense Academy's Joint Services Wing course. There are other ways too, but you need to have studied specific subjects, including Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, a Language, and one more subject.

5. Year Of Passing Qualifying Exam

You should've passed your 12th-grade or equivalent exam in 2023 or 2022, or you're going to in 2024.

6. Diploma Holders

If you have a diploma, you can apply, but your rank and score won't count for NITs or CFTIs.

7. Marks Eligibility

For B.Tech, if you're in the General category, you need at least 75%, or if you're in the reserved category, at least 65%, or be in the top 20 percentile. For B.Arch, you should score 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in your 12th-grade or equivalent.

8. JEE Main 2023 Eligibility for Repeaters

There's no age limit. You must've passed the 12th class exam in 2021 or 2022. Score at least 75% in the qualifying exam, with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Only the top 2,50,000 Main exam qualifiers can take the Advanced exam.

State Code of Eligibility

This is based on where you passed your Class XII exam. It's not about where you were born or where you live. For example, if you took your 12th-grade exam in Delhi, your state code is Delhi, even if you're originally from somewhere else. If you're studying through NIOS, choose the state where your study center is. If you're an Indian citizen in Nepal or Bhutan, it's based on your passport's permanent address.

Once you meet these criteria and pass all the stages of the JEE 2023 exam, you can enroll in B.Tech, B.E, B.Arch, and Integrated MSc programs at prestigious engineering schools like NITs and IIITs.

Steps After Jee

After the JEE Main exam, here are the subsequent steps and timelines for the JEE Advanced exam and counselling:

1. JEE Main Result:

Jee Mains Result are usually announced within a few weeks after the exam, typically around one month after the exam date.

2. JEE Advanced:

Examination Timing: JEE Advanced is usually conducted about one to two months after the declaration of JEE Main results.

Eligibility: Top candidates (Usually 2,50,000) based on JEE Main ranks are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.

3. Counselling and Seat Allotment:

Authority : JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) conducts counselling for admission to IIT's , NIT's, IIIT's, GFTI's, and other participating institutes based on JEE Main ranks.

Timeline : JoSAA counselling begins shortly after the declaration of JEE Advanced results, typically around one to two weeks after the exam.

Choice Filling : Candidates fill their choices of institutes and courses based on their JEE Advanced rank for IIT and Jee Main Ranks for NIT and other .

Seat Allotment : JoSAA conducts multiple rounds of seat allotment based on preferences, merit, and seat availability.

Flexibility in Choices : Candidates can modify and re-prioritize their choices during each round of counselling.

4. Document Verification and Admission:

After seat allotment, candidates need to report to the allocated institute for document verification.

Pay the required fees and complete other formalities to secure admission.
